Some of you have noticed that your author, who has made it a habit to drop things for months at a time, then to only suddenly reappear like that errant stepfather, has done it again.
A bit of explanation. When one’s waking hours are spent pitch-adjusting blue audograph discs or wondering whether more time shouldn’t be spent with something called digiprov, other things – important things – perspective, for one, updating music blogs, another – tend to get pushed aside. Healthier souls, even in their busiest stretches, commit themselves to at least some daily moment of relaxation or favorite activity. The word, I think, is balance. That’s something I’ve never much messed around with.
But Office Naps is something that we record collectors strive for. An unmediated, unregulated forum for our collections, simply, and an audience there to pay the tiniest bit of attention. Believe me, having someone, anyone, to listen to your music and your various exhortations about music is a true pleasure. And you, readers, you’re more than just anyone, you’re the best.
Which is to say I’ll be back. Just give me another month or two.

Didn’t know what an Audograph disc even was until reading this post and then looking it up. I assume you’re doing digital transfers/restorations? Of what? Dictation? Recordings from radio? Rare local music performances from the ’40’s? Please elaborate!
In my researches, I came across a very interesting pitch correction method, by the way (necessary, of course, because the original playback device spun the record at a variable rpm): you isolate the hum in the original recording, and then, assuming you’ve digitally transferred using a modern constant-rpm turntable, you can create an accurate time-pitch correction curve, which would be, I guess, inversely proportional to the hum frequency. Probably nothing you don’t know already, but I thought I’d share. Hell–for all I know it was your very own business website that yielded that fascinating nugget.
I just wish warped LPs and 45 had enough hum to employ this techique!
Anyway–this is my first comment here even though I’ve been reading for well over a year. I enjoy your writing even more than the music, which is not to dis the music you present, but to simply state the fact that you are a phenomenal wordsmith.

"Hines" is an unemployed, mentally ill person from New Jersey masquerading himself as a jazz fan. Though nobody knows his real name, his voice can be heard at Bruno's Alert Blog. Well-known is his IP address under which "Hines" spammed literally hundreds (!) of jazz blogs with pedophile comments.

I just found this blog after reading Herb Kent's mention of his "first hit record" The Tea Box (actually Tea Pot) and scouring the web to find it. Not only do you write well and find amazing amounts of information about the records, it turns out I had put this particular side on a cassette comp 25 yrs. ago when I worked in a used record store and was my favorite on the tape. Lots of happiness here, I'll spend some time here for sure, and spread the word. Thanks Danny, happy New Year.
